What is Blu-ray - Price Comparison
Blu-rays are a digital disk, very much like a DVD or CD
A Blu-ray Disc is designed to store high-definition video as well as PS3 games and other data. It is named 'Blu-ray' due to the blue-violet laser which is used to read the disc and uses a shorter wavelength.
"The most exciting part of it all is that a Blu-ray disc can store nearly ten times more data than a standard DVD!"
So what does all this technical jargon mean for you?
Well, for starters, if you buy a high-definition film on Blu-ray you will be treated to a much clearer image than from your standard DVD. This is because a high-definition film takes up about five times more bandwidth - therefore requiring the disc which you play it on to having five times more storage. A double-layer Blu-ray disc can store up to 50GB, which is enough to hold around 4.5 hours of high-definition video and more than 20 hours of standard video.
Just the picture?
As much as your old DVD player has treated you well, the move to high-definition is a treat for both sight and sound senses, with Blu-ray discs and players featuring high-quality audio soundtrack options.
Why do we need to upgrade?
As more film studios and television studios start to make the move to working in high definition, consumers will need the playback systems with a large storage capacity - enter the Blu-ray player! DVD films are looking increasingly worse as technology moves on and our television screens get larger. Currently Blu-ray is winning the High-definition delivery system war and the technology surround the Blu-ray's hardware is still evolving.
